Overview
The Diploma in Clinical Embryology (DCE) programme is a bespoke workplace-based programme designed for embryologists supported by a local training institute.
It provides opportunities for trained and trainee embryologists to sharpen their knowledge and skills for future career progression. Embryologists entering these programmes will be trained to be skilled in all aspects of IVF and they will have a pivotal role to accept the challenges of delivering cutting edge reproductive medicine services. This program requires students to achieve a balance between academic learning and work-based training.

Explain the cellular and molecular development of the human preimplantation embryo.

Describe relevant techniques for oocyte and embryo morphological assessments.

Describe and evaluate the relevant technique for the process of embryo transfer.

Discuss implantation and endometrial function.

Describe male and female reproductive anatomy and physiology.
-
Describe relevant techniques for semen analysis and preparation.

Describe and evaluate the application of quality assurance methodologies to reproductive science.

Explain spermatogenesis and spermiogenesis, and oogenesis and oocyte maturation.

Discuss the cellular and molecular basis of fertilisation.

Describe relevant techniques for gamete preparation and handling.

Describe methods of insemination and be able to identify normal and abnormally fertilised oocytes.

Describe culture systems used in reproductive science.
-
Principles, practices, risks, and regulations of intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)

Cryobiology, including the physical and chemical processes occurring during cryopreservation and thawing

Describe the process and requirements for publication in a peer-reviewed journal and the current system of grading research publications.
Eligibility
Essential criteria

Science degree from Government approved University
-
Embryology experience for at least one year
-
On-going training opportunity with approved assisted conception facility in the home country
English language requirement

The program is taught and assessed in English language.
​
Applicants can demonstrate English language requirements by:

· The graduate degree taught in English

· taking an approved proficiency test IELTS/ TOEFL/PTE academic

· providing an approved international English language qualification.

Teaching

The course consists of taught modules and a research project.
Lectures will be delivered by Distinguished International Faculties. The faculties are chosen carefully to enrich the learning experience of our students.

Each module will have its intended learning outcomes. The student must complete all core and at least one elective module.

Written exams:

Five modular exams, one at the end of each module

Format: MCQs, and case studies

One final MCQ exam at the end of the program
Oral exam
One oral exam will be held at the end of the program. The candidate passes through four sessions each has a board of two teachers.

Pass/Fail criteria
In all written and oral exams, the pass /fail limits will be defined using a formal standard-setting process.

Duration
The duration of the program is Minimum 6 months and maximum one year.
​
The DCE program is competency and skill-based program. It is built on the successful achievement of competency and knowledge evidenced by logbook, assignments, and course work. Due to different workload at different places, varied timetables or case opportunities, few applicants may take longer than others to complete the program.
The DCE program ensures that candidates have achieved adequate knowledge and skills to deliver safe effective and high-quality fertility care.
